Georgia reports 3,282 new cases of COVID-19, weekly positivity rate stands at 6.24%

Georgia has reported 3,282 new cases of coronavirus, 3,263 recoveries and 53 deaths over the last 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate for tested individuals stands at 6.24%.
49,347 tests have been administered within the last 24 hours, out of which 3 4,387were rapid tests, while the remaining 14,80 were PCR tests.
Out of the new 3,282 cases, 1,378 were reported in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

- Kakheti – 162 cases
- Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 252 cases
- Kvemo Kartli – 121 cases
- Shida Kartli –25 cases
- Adjara – 272 cases
- Guria – 122 cases
- Samtskhe-Javakheti – 73 cases
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 76 cases
- Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 38 cases

Georgia confirmed the first two cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus earlier today. The new strain, which was detected in South Africa last month, has been classified as a ‘variant of concern’ by the World Health Organization (WHO)The WHO says that Omicron has an ‘unprecedented number of spike mutations’, which is concerning due to the potential impact on the trajectory of the pandemic.
Georgia has reported 1,296 new cases of coronavirus, 4,127 recoveries and 45 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Deputy head of Georgia’s National Center for Disease Control, Paata Imnadze, says that the new variant of coronavirus dubbed Omicron is ‘very likely’ to infect many, ‘particularly unvaccinated’ individuals, and there will be more of a need for hospital beds than at present.
About 100,000 Georgian citizens over the age of 60 have received a vaccine against Covid-19 following the announcement on November 8 of the Georgian government’s incentive program, which provides pensioners with a 200 GEL pension bonus, Head of Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze reported.
