Georgian film director Levan Koguashvili's feature 'Brighton 4th' has won best film at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.

'Brighton 4th,' which has been selected as Georgia's Oscar contender in international feature category, tells the story of a retired Georgian wrestler who travels to the United States to help his son out of a gambling debt.

The leading role in the film is portrayed by Georgia's former Olympic wrestler Levan Tediashvili. American entertainment outlet Variety praised his performance for being 'dignified' and 'quietly charismatic.'

President of this year's Red Sea features jury, Italian film director Giuseppe Tornatore said that the nominated films presented 'diverse and fascinating breadth of themes.'

This has been an extraordinary experience, we have been moved, provoked and inspired by these films and it has demonstrated the exceptional filmmaking talent and compelling stories, Tornatore added.

Launched in 2019, the Red Sea Film Festival is hosted on December 6-15.

'Brighton 4th' has also won the best picture award at the Asian World Film Festival, three more awards at Tribeca Film Festival and three at FilmFestival Cottbus.
