Georgian film director Levan Koguashvili's latest feature Brighton 4th has won the best picture award at the Asian World film Festival (AWFF) in Los Angeles.

Brighton 4th, which has been selected as Georgia's Oscar contender for the next Academy Awards, tells the story of a retired Georgian wrestler who travels to the US to help his son out of a gambling debt.

American entertainment outlet Variety praised the film for balancing 'rueful humor with genuine sweetness.'

The leading character in the film is portrayed by the former Georgian Olympic wrestler Levan Tediashvili. Variety lauded Tediashvili's performance for being 'dignified' and 'quietly charismatic.'

Brighton 4th has also won three awards at Tribeca Film Festival and three at FilmFestival Cottbus.
