Forty-four new metro cars are planned to be bought at a cost of approximately $49.2 million, Interpressnews agency reports.
Tbilisi City Hall is working on the project with specialists from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Tbilisi Metro will have eight new metro cars by 2022, while the remaining 36 will be purchased by 2024,” Tbilisi City Hall said.
Guramishvili, Station Square, Sarajishvili, Marjanishvili, Freedom Square, 300 Aragveli, Rustaveli, Isani, Tsereteli, and Nadzaladevi metro stations will also be renovated with the support of the EBRD.
Interpressnews also reports that a contract for the renovation of Gotsiridze metro station was signed with LTD Mamisoni on November 11. Renovations will be finished in about half a year.

Tbilisi City Hall will allocate slightly more than $1 million to reconstruct metro station Gotsiridze, announced Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze earlier today.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will provide a €75 million sovereign loan to modernise Tbilisi’s metro network in Georgian capital city. The EBRD will allocate €65 million while the GCF will provide €10 million, which will be spent on the acquisition of 40 modern metro cars as well as the modernisation of a depot and a tunnel.
Tbilisi City Hall says that it is planned to make Melikishvili street in Tbilisi two-way for municipal public transport following the renovation of the street, adding that the renovation of various other streets and an upgrade of traffic grids in the city are also planned, local media outlet On.ge reports.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports that Tbilisi Metro will purchase 44 new metro cars from Russian engineering company Metrowagonmash.
Tbilisi metro stations will be adapted for people with disabilities with financial support of international organisations including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, mayor Kakha Kaladze announced on Wednesday.
