Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports that Tbilisi Metro will purchase 44 new metro cars from Russian engineering company Metrowagonmash.
Tbilisi City Hall told RFE/RL that the bidding for purchasing new metro cars was announced by donor organisation the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and Metrowagonmash had the winning bid.
Tbilisi City Hall announced regarding the purchase of new metro cars in the middle of December, 2021.
Tbilisi Metro will have eight new metro cars by 2022, while the remaining 36 will be purchased by 2024.
Guramishvili, Station Square, Sarajishvili, Marjanishvili, Freedom Square, 300 Aragveli, Rustaveli, Isani, Tsereteli, and Nadzaladevi metro stations will also be renovated with the support of the EBRD.
The EBRD has allocated €65 million to finance the project.
