A total of 825,129 voters (39.5 per cent of eligible voters) have cast their ballots in the Georgian municipal run-offs as of 5 p.m. today.
Based on the Central Election Commission data, the most active constituency is Racha-Lechkhumi where 52.8 per cent of registered voters have cast their vote.
Mtskheta-Mtianeti remains the least active constituency where 33.9 per cent of registered voters have cast their vote so far.
The voter turnout stands at 38.7 per cent in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi where a total of 387,771 voters have cast their ballots.
Didube in Tbilisi is currently the most active constituency where 43.5 per cent of registered voters have cast their vote.
The least active is Isani again where 34.3 per cent of registered voters have cast their vote so far.
Georgia is holding municipal run-offs today where a total of 2,088,722 voters, including 1,002,525 in Tbilisi are eligible to elect 20 mayors and 42 majoritarian members of the City Assemblies (Sakrebulos).
The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party head Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that the GD is winning in 18 out of 20 municipalities, saying that in the remaining two municipalities the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party is close to 50% threshold.
A total of 358,782 voters (17.18 per cent of eligible voters) have cast their ballots in the Georgian municipal run-offs as of 12 p.m. today. Meanwhile, the voter turnout stands at 16.5 per cent in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi where a total of 164,929 voters have cast their ballots.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who has cast her ballot in today’s municipal run-offs, said she hopes polarisation will end in Georgia.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who has cast his ballot in today’s municipal elections, said he voted for the country’s ‘peaceful development.’ PM Garibashvili, who arrived at the polling station with his family, asked the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) supporters to cast their ballots as well.
MP Ani Tsitlidze from the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party has been escorted by the police out of Zugdidi’s 21st polling station. The incident reportedly took place after the UNM’s election commission member, two journalists, and an NGO representative got kicked out of the station.
The chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze has said that according to the data by 7 p.m, GD is winning the municipal run-offs in all 20 municipalities. The local self-government election run-offs are held today in 20 out of 64 election constituencies, including the five large cities of Georgia: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Batumi and Poti.
The Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) says that 97 complaints have been presented on voting procedures by 40 observers and 57 representatives of political parties in today’s municipal election run-offs.
