31.8% of adult Georgian population fully vaccinated amid fifth wave of COVID-19

A total 31.8% of the adult Georgian population is fully vaccinated as of October 19, while only 6,203 individuals received COVID-19 shots yesterday.
Georgia has reported 5,739 new coronavirus cases and 36 deaths in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate of tested individuals has risen to 10.15%.
As of today, 907,106 people are fully vaccinated nationwide, while 1,920,934 individuals have received at least one dose against COVID-19.
The vaccination rate in Georgia began to decline in September, and less than 10,000 vaccine doses have been administered daily since the beginning of October.
Georgian health officials maintain that it is necessary to administer up to 30,000 doses daily in order to carry out their plan to vaccinate 60% of the country’s population by the end of the year.
In order to boost the vaccination rate, the Georgian government began vaccination marathons by sending medical workers to rural areas of the country to talk to locals about the benefits of vaccination.
Currently, the Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines are available in all regions of Georgia for adult residents. Adolescents aged 16-17 and youngsters from 12 to 15 with chronic conditions are also eligible to receive Pfizer shots.
Vice speaker of the Parliament and former health minister of Georgia, Davit Sergeenko, proposes ‘selective restrictions’ for individuals unvaccinated against COVID-19. Sergeenko's statement comes on the heels of surging daily cases of coronavirus, hitting around 3,000-4,000 over the past few days.
The government of Latvia has donated a total of 83,070 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Georgia. As of now, 322,903 doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available in Georgia. Those, willing to get vaccinated, should visit the health ministry website booking.moh.gov.ge and choose the vaccine they prefer and are eligible for.

Mobile units will be sent to various regions of Georgia providing services for citizens who wish to be vaccinated against Covid-19. "In order to increase the intensity of vaccination and ensure maximum access to vaccination, mobile units will be sent to various settlements in various regions to provide services on spot,” representative of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Ghibradze announced earlier today.
Georgia has reported 5,219 new cases of coronavirus, 2,348 recoveries and 42 deaths in the last 24 hours. 45,610 remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia.
The head of Georgia's National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, has said that in spite of soaring coronavirus cases ‘there is no pressure on the healthcare system,' as about one million people are currently vaccinated, and 42% of the country’s population have recovered from the virus.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated that the country received a million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine on October 1 and called on the Georgian population to get vaccinated, noting that ‘the Pfizer vaccine is available’ as well.
Georgia has reported 4,411 new cases of coronavirus, 2,896 recoveries and 29 deaths in the past 24 hours. A total of 48,358 remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia. Overall, 53,700 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours. 33,678 of the 53,700 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 20,022 were PCR tests.

Ninety-nine per cent of individuals who have died from Covid-19 in Georgia were not vaccinated, Head of Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said. “This is a life-and-death battle with an invisible enemy. Vaccination is our main weapon, which will lead to eventual victory", he said.
A total 35.6 percent of the adult Georgian population is fully vaccinated as of November 5, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced earlier today. The number of fully vaccinated individuals stands at 1,017,374, while those who have received their first shots stands at 1,196,371.
