The Ministry of Internal Affairs has released the intermediate results of its ongoing investigation into the murder of co-founder of Georgian social media platform Feedc, Nika Kvaratskhelia.
Police detained 21-year-old Ako Chelidze and 22-year-old Giorgi Kiviladze for the murder of Nika Kvaratskhelia on October 7.
The MIA said that the Chelidze and Kiviladze preliminary planned the assassination of Kvaratskhelia and illegally bought firearms, ammunition and rented a car.
Interior Ministry also noted that dozens of witnesses, including the eyewitnesses of the crime, were questioned after the murder of Nika Kvaratskhelia.
Based on analysis of testimonies and case details, several investigative versions were defined to establish motive/motives of the murder. Police obtained several dozen surveillance recordings depicting the movement of the accused persons. Search activities were held in up to 10 apartments and various facilities, including the shop of the murderer Giorgi Kiviladze", said MIA.
MIA also reports that odorologic, ballistic, chemical, biological, information-technological examinations were carried out on the evidence seized within the investigation.
MIA says that as investigative activities are underway, police may identify other defendants.
Ako Chelidze fired more than 10 shots in the direction of Kvaratskhelia from the firearm and fled the scene of the crime in a rented vehicle with Giorgi Kiviladze, the Interior Ministry reports.
The police announced the opening of the homicide case on September 18, however, the offenders have been hiding until October 7.
22-year-old Nika Kvaratskhelia died on September 16 following the shooting in the Vera district of Tbilisi.
