A memorial dedicated to those who went missing in Georgia-Russia armed conflicts has been unveiled on Tamarashvili street in Tbilisi with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Office of the state Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality.

The memorial will bring at least some relief to the families that have been waiting for their loved ones for years. Now they will have a specific place to gather... It is so difficult when so many people disappear without a trace and even more people are in constant uncertainty”, said Nana Kardava, member of Tbilisi Committee of the Families of Missing Persons.

The design of the memorial was created by families of missing persons, intertwining various symbols – a tree to evoke the eternal nature of life, forget-me-not flowers and a ‘hollow human’ silhouette to embody the void left by disappearance.

Georgian sculptors Nikolo Meliva and Korneli Ramishvili worked on the project.
