December 2020: number of foreign visitors down 90.8%

A total of 49,260 international visits have been carried out to Georgia in December 2020 which is a 90.8 per cent decrease compared to the same period of last year, says the Georgian National Tourism Administration.

International visitors carried out 44,723 visits to Georgia by land, 3,563 by air, 755 by sea and 219 by rail.
The top three countries from where visits have been carried out were:
- Tukey – 19,698 visits (down 75.6%)
- Armenia – 9,324 visits (down 93.1%)
- Russia – 4,404 visits (down 93.3%)
Other countries from where most visits have been carried out were Georgia (non-residents), Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, France, USA and Israel.
Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Maia Tskitishvili says that 'our international guests' can still visit the Georgian region of Adjara via flights that connect Georgia to other countries.
The total number of arrivals by international non-resident travellers coming to Georgia in 2019 increased by 7.8 per cent compared to last year and reached 9.4 million, show data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Georgia expects 10.5 million international visitors in 2024 and $6 billion in earnings from the tourism sector in 2024, said Head of the Georgian Tourism Administration Mariam Kvrivishvili.
An Insider article reads that the country of Georgia, ‘which is filled with medieval castles, mountains, riverbanks, and rocky beaches’, is welcoming long-term visitors who are interested in working remotely from the country.
A total of 1,393,914 international travellers visited Georgia in January-October 2021, which is 1.8% less than in the same period of 2020, and 79% less than the same period of 2019.
