One million doses of Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines have arrived in Georgia and the country is starting mass vaccination on July 5, announces Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
Today we received a million doses of Chinese vaccines authorised by the World Health Organisation ... In the next few weeks, half a million doses of Sinopharm and half a million doses of Sinovak will be delivered. In total, we have ordered 2 million doses", Garibashvili said.
In addition, Garibashvili announced that one million doses of Pfizer vaccine will be gradually introduced in the country starting July.
The contract is signed, we have paid the money... By the end of this year Georgia will have received about 4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, meaning that we will be able to vaccinate 60% of our adult population", Garibashvili said.
Garibashvili called on the public and asked them to 'show civil responsibility' and register for vaccination which will be available starting tomorrow.
The activity and involvement of our citizens in this process is crucial.. We plan to vaccinate about 20,000 - 25,000 people a day in order to vaccinate at least half a million people in a month... The whole system will be fully ready by Monday", Garibashvili said.
This summer vaccination process will continue in Georgia with four vaccines: Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
