Nitrate levels exceed norm in 16 of 100 samples of vegetables, fruits

Higher nitrate content was observed in 16 of 100 vegetable and fruit samples imported or produced in Georgia, announces the National Food Agency of Georgia.

The National Food Agency says that the nitrates were found mainly in beet samples, the sale of which was banned in the country.

No nitrates were found in watermelon and melon.

The National Food Agency monitors the nitrate levels in different kinds of vegetable and fruits following the increased demand on these products during the summer.

The examination will continue throughout the summer and the final results will be published later in autumn.
