The importance of prevention and management of food safety risks and intensification of state control over the matter were emphasised by Zurab Chekurashvili, the Head of the National Food Agency, in comments on World Food Safety Day on Tuesday.

During an event dedicated to the international date, the official pointed out the role of producers, processors and consumers in ensuring food safety, and stressed the importance of joint efforts to avoid the dangers of food intoxication and increase production, the Agency announced.

Giorgi Khanishvili, the Deputy Agriculture Minister who also attended the event, spoke of the significance of raising the awareness of those involved in the food chain for ensuring safe products.

Every entrepreneur is obliged to ensure the production of a harmless product. It is the duty of each of us to take care of the community,” Khanishvili noted.

Organised under the project Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock with the involvement of the Agency, the event was held at Tbilisi’s Mziuri Park and hosted an exhibition and sale of locally produced food products, as well as entertainment events for children.

Established in 2018 by the United Nations, the theme of this year’s World Food Safety Day was Safer Food, Better Health, with the global date aiming to help protect the health of populations, increase production in agriculture and improve the economic situation.
