No one has suffered any injuries as local staff has managed to immediately put off the fire. The rain has also prevented it from spreading further.
Bakuriani, which is one of the favourite tourist destinations in Georgia, welcomed its summer guests on June 25. However, due to the recent fire one of its ski lifts on Mount Kokhta is out of order now.
At the slopes of the Mount Kokhta, a high mountain botanical garden was built between 1902 and 1910.
1935 was the first year Bakuriani operated as a skiing resort. In the 1950s, a 45 metre and 75 metre ski jumps were constructed.
Bakuiani will host the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in 2023. It was also awarded host status for the 2025 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
