Georgia will receive an additional 43,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine in mid-June, while the country will import half a million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine not later than early July, Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said earlier today.
Gamkrelidze also said the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will donate 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine this summer to Georgia.
Head of NCDC Amiran Gamkrelidze also noted that Georgia is holding negotiations to receive Moderna and Novovax vaccines in the coming future.
Vaccination with the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine against coronavirus has begun today in Georgia for people over the age of 18.
Registration for vaccination is available on booking.moh.gov.ge.
Georgia started coronavirus vaccination in mid-March when the country received 43,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
In addition to Sinovac, the country is currently using AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm vaccines for certain groups of individuals.

Based on the state webpage stopcov.ge, a total of 105,500 individuals have been vaccinated against Covid-19 as of May 21 throughout Georgia.

The Indian Covid-19 strain has not yet been laboratory-confirmed in Georgia, though studies are underway in the Lugar Laboratory of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) , said Head of NCDC Amiran Gamkrelidze.
Georgia has reported 1,015 new cases of coronavirus, 1,151 recoveries and 28 deaths in the past 24 hours. In total, 39,697 tests have been conducted around the country of which 25,325 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 14,372 were PCR tests.
