Opposition politicians who signed the EU-mediated agreement on April 19 have called on others to consolidate their efforts and make the ruling party fulfil its obligations.

They also call on the opposition politicians who refuse to sign the document to take more responsibility on the current political processes.

By signing a document proposed by the European Council President Charles Michel A Way Ahead for Georgia  on April 19, 2021 the country has received an important opportunity to come out of the deep political crisis”, the joint document reads.

Based on the document the Georgian Dream has factually admitted the falsification of parliamentary elections in the country, existence of politicisation of judiciary and political prisoners, the need for judiciary and elections reforms, and took the responsibility to release political prisoners through concrete mechanisms and to hold snap elections”, it further notes.

Opposition MPs from the Strategy Aghmashenebeli, Lelo for Georgia, Republican Party, Girchi-More Freedom, as well as current and former members of UNM and European Georgia, call on others to refrain from confrontation and instead support the implementation of the agreement.

Welcoming the recent release of TV Mtavari co-founder Giorgi Rurua the signatories said it is only possible with the joint efforts to release the United National Movement (UNM) chair Nika Melia and to ‘take the country out of the deep political and economic crisis, which hinders Georgia’s fast, democratic development’.
