Ruling party MPs propose tougher punishment for ‘petty hooliganism, disobedience to police’

Ruling Georgian Dream party MPs have proposed a bill to toughen the punishment for petty hooliganism and disobedience to police. 

The bill would have repeat petty hooliganism punishable by a 1,500-2,000 GEL fine or administrative imprisonment for 7-15 days 

The bill says that disobedience to police, or verbal abuse of a policeman who is performing his/her duties will be punishable by 2,000-3,000 GEL fine or administrative imprisonment up to 15 days. 

Repeat violations will be punishable by 3,500-4,500 GEL fine or administrative imprisonment for 10-15 days. 

3,452 cases of petty hooliganism were reported last year, while the figure stood at 4,201 for disobedience to police.
