Saying that ‘immunisation is the key’ to the country’s economy as well as the precondition for returning back to normal life, Gamkrelidze called on everyone to receive the vaccines.

He noted as well that certain groups of people above 18, including teachers, police officers and front-desk workers may receive the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine starting May 4.

Georgia started coronavirus vaccination on March 15 after the country received the AstraZeneca vaccine. Later Pfizer vaccine also arrived, followed by Sinopharm.

Amiran Gamkrelidze stated that as of now over 35,000 citizens have been vaccinated in Georgia. However, Georgia aims to have at least 60% of its 3.7 million population vaccinated by the end of the year.
