US-produced medicine Remdesivir enters Georgia for Covid-19 patients in critical condition

Remdesivir, a US-produced medicine against Ebola which is also used against Covid-19, has entered Georgia and will be used in the treatement of Covid-19 patients who are in critical condition from Monday, Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze stated earlier today.
She said that a group of medics chaired by head of Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre Tengiz Tsertsvadze will decide on the use of the medicine for Covid-19 patients ‘for the use of the medicine to be safe and effective.’
Tsertsvadze, who earlier contracted the virus, stated that ‘if not Remdesivir, I will not be alive today.’
He stated that he received the medicine from the US as at that time Remdesivir was unavailable in Georgia.
Georgian health officials stated last week that the country had ordered 4,000 units of Remdesivir.
The portion is for 660 individuals and will be used for the patients who are in critical condition (the patients who are on artificial ventilation and no more than 12 days are passed from contracting the virus).
Georgia is negotiating with large US biopharmaceutical company Gilead to receive Remdesivir – an experimental medicine that has been used since 2015 against Ebola, which has also been used by Chinese doctors against COVID-19 in some cases.
The Georgian healthcare system has capacity for refrigerators required for the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 virus, in case the country selects the preparation for purchase, the Head of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze announced on Wendesday.
Georgia has reported 3,487 new cases of coronavirus, 2,495 recoveries and 39 deaths in the past 24 hours. 17,943 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country; 10,477 of the 17,943 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 7,466 were PCR tests. Georgia has had 198,387 cases of coronavirus since February. 167,281 of the 198,387 individuals have recovered, while 1,922 others have died. 29,158 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.
Georgia has reported 1,337 new cases, 3,498 recoveries and 49 deaths in the past 24 hours. 6,554 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country; 3,064 of the 6,554 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 3,490 were PCR tests. Georgia has had 191,063 cases of coronavirus since February. 161,681 of the 191,063 individuals have recovered, while 1,839 others have died. 27,517 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.
Georgia has reported 2,635 new cases, 2,244 recoveries and 49 deaths in the past 24 hours. 16,870 tests have been conducted in the past 24 hours around the country (8,011 of the 16,870 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 8,859 were PCR tests). Georgia has had 204,003 cases of coronavirus since February. 171,526 of the 201,368 individuals have recovered, while 2,002 others have died.
