Georgia has reported more than 100,000 coronavirus cases since February

Georgia has had 100,684 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.

The country has reported 3,824 new cases of coronavirus, 3,851 recoveries and 33 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Facemasks mandatory in open public areas in Georgia

17,948 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.

Curfew goes into effect

The new 3,824 cases were recorded in:

Tbilisi - 1,247 cases
Adjara - 742 cases
Imereti - 609 cases
Kvemo Kartli - 214 cases
Shida Kartli - 197 cases
Guria - 157 cases
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 319 cases
Kakheti - 150 cases
Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 96 cases
Samtskhe-Javakheti - 63 cases
Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti - 30 cases

Georgian healthcare specialists: anti-corona measures insufficient, must be changed to avoid more dire consequences

Since February 81,783 individuals have recovered from coronavirus in Georgia, while 927 others have died.

5,976 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals as of today. 849 of the 5,976 patients are in critical condition. 308 of the 849 critical patients are on artificial ventilation.

3,445 Covid-19 patients are in hotels, 2,128 individuals are in quarantine and 8,527 are at home.

56,344 individuals are in self-isolation.

More than 1,012,160 individuals have been tested for coronavirus in Georgia so far.

Borjomi and Bakuriani bishop Lazare Samadbegishvili dies of coronavirus

Lazare Samadbegishvili, the bishop of Borjomi and Bakuriani has died of coronavirus today. Head of Patriarchate’s Public Relations Service Andria Jagmaidze said the bishop had cancer and underwent surgery a few days ago. Later he tested positive for coronavirus.

Georgia has reported 3,768 new cases of coronavirus, 4,055 recoveries and 41 deaths in the past 24 hours. Borjomi and Bakuari bishop Lazare is among the deceased individuals. He had cancer and later he tested positive for coronavirus. The Head of Infectious Diseases and AIDS Centre Tengiz Tsertsvadze, who tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week, has been transported to hospital as his health condition has worsened.

Planned operations will be postponed until March 1, 2021 announced Georgian Health Minister Ekaterina Tikaradze. "We have had a number of cases where an individual who was not infected with Covid-19 went to the clinic for a specific operation and after the operation he/she was confirmed positive with the infection. Therefore, we decided to limit planned surgeries and postpone the delay until March 1," Tikaradze told local Imedi TV.

The government of Georgia has announced that it will not place a systemic lockdown into effect today as Georgian media outlets had earlier reported. Vice-PM Maia Tskitishvili says that the media reports were ‘wrong and misleading.’ She stated that the government will exercise a ‘more effective control’ on wearing facemasks, as ‘it is one of the most effective measures to prevent the further spread of coronavirus.’ Tskitishvili said that the opposition’s election-related rallies sparked a surge in new infections.

Georgia has had 114,889 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020. Since then 95,581 individuals have recovered, while 1,085 others have died. 6,145 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals as of today. 886 of the 6,145 patients are in critical condition. 324 of the 886 critical patients are on artificial ventilation.
