Six individuals have died and 10 others were injured in a road accident near Gori, central Georgia late yesterday after a minibus and a truck collided.
All the individuals in the minibus had come to the capital of Tbilisi from western Samegrelo region earlier in the day to attend the rally of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition rally.
They were returning back to the region late yesterday when the accident took place.
Police have detained the driver of the truck who is a Turkish citizen.
UNM member Salome Samadashvili expressed her ‘deep sorrow’ over the tragic incident and stated that the individuals had ‘sacrificed their lives to the state.’
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has stated that 'it is a big tragedy for the country. We have no citizens to lose.'
