Out of 1,941 new coronavirus cases 1,034 reported in Tbilisi

Georgia has reported 1,941 new cases of coronavirus over the last 24 hours, including 1,034 cases in the capital of Tbilisi.

Berdia Sichinava, Deputy Head of Task Force operating under the Inter-Agency Coordination Council announced today that 412 infected individuals have recovered, while ten people have unfortunately died of the coronavirus-related complications.

Out of the 1,941 new cases:

  • 1,034 were reported in Tbilisi
  • 320 were reported in Adjara
  • 258 were reported in Imereti
  • 107 were reported in Kvemo Kartli
  • 68 were reported in Shida Kartli
  • 49 were reported in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti
  • 37 were reported in Kakheti
  • 36 were reported in Mtskheta-Mtianeti
  • 18 were reported in Samtskhe-Javakheti
  • 12 were reported in Guria
  • 2 were reported in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

As of today, Georgia has confirmed a total of 26,503 cases of COVID-19 since February 26, which includes 10,163 recoveries and 193 deaths; 16,121 people remain infected with the virus.

Meanwhile, yesterday rapid antigen testing for COVID-19 - which gives results in less than 30 minutes - has been launched in Georgia. This method relies on direct detection of SARS-CoV-2 viral proteins in nasal swabs and other respiratory secretions.

The government of Georgia claims the safety of voters as well as international observers will be ensured at the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia amid the coronavirus pandemic, as the Central Election Commission has set safety guidelines for the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 31.

Health and state officials urge population to wear face masks in open areas in the three main cities of Georgia - Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi - to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.
