EU to cut Georgia from ‘safe country’ list following sharp increase in coronavirus cases

The European Union (EU) will cut Georgia from its safe country list amid a sharp increase in coronavirus cases in the country in the last few weeks.

The European Union is set to cut Georgia, Canada and Tunisia from a ‘white list’ of countries from which travellers can visit the bloc without COVID-related restrictions such as quarantine or mandatory tests, while adding Singapore”, reads an article published by Reuters on October 21.

After the changes the so-called white list will consist of nine countries – Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Uruguay.

Georgia has reported 1,595 new cases of coronavirus and six deaths in the past 24 hours.

Since February 26, Georgia has had 22,803 cases of coronavirus. Since then 9,401 patients have recovered, while 178 have died.
