Georgia remains on EU’s list of safe countries amid coronavirus outbreak

Georgia has kept its place on the EU’s newly updated list of safe countries along with 10 other non-EU states, says Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani.
This is a recognition of [Georgia] and the measures taken by the [Georgian] government, which still keeps Georgia in the list of safe countries," said Zalkaliani.

The main task for [the government] is the security of [Georgian] citizens and also the security of the citizens who come to Georgia from Europe. As safe as they come, they must also go safe,” said Zalkaliani.
Zalkaliani said that despite the flight restrictions all over the world amid the pandemic, 70 flights are planned in September in Georgia out of which 30 are regular flights.
He noted that more than 23,000 Georgian citizens have been brought home since the beginning of the pandemic and said that Georgia continues to bring its citizens back to the country.
Georgia is opening its borders for travellers from five countries, announces PM Spokesman Irakli Chikovani after a meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council today. The government of Georgia is also negotiating with international airline companies to resume direct flights in Georgia. So far an agreement has been reached with Lufthansa which will start flights between Munich and Tbilisi starting August.
Georgia is the safest country among 12 states of East Europe and Central Asia for Covid-19, reports Deep Knowledge Group. Deep Knowledge Group (DKG) has assessed countries based on 76 parameters to determine their treatment efficiency, healthcare readiness, quarantine efficiency, and government efficiency of risk management.

Georgia is striving to become the first country that opens its doors to foreign tourists after months of lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic. Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava said that the tourism sector needs special support to overcome the challenges it faces today and that "we are working on a tourism support programme" that includes anti-crisis measures as well as future incentives.
