Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia Faig Guliyev has responded to Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s offer for Georgia is ready to mediate between Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders over the Karabakh conflict, noting Azerbaijan is ready to participate in negotiations if Armenia agrees to voluntarily withdraw its armed forces from Karabakh.

However, we will not agree to negotiations of which the real desire is the continuation of the occupation. This is the will of the Azerbaijani people and this is the position of the state", Guliyev said in an interview with the local newspaper Kviris Palitra.

He added that the Azerbaijani army is fighting for the land that is recognised as its own by the international community.

Hostilities over Nagorno-Karabakh resumed between Azerbaijan and Armenia earlier this month.
