The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has met media representatives earlier today to discuss economic development since the COVID-19 pandemic and the steps made by the government to support the economy.
In a discussion titled ‘Post-crisis economic development and international support for the Covid-19 crisis’, the Prime Minister's Advisor for Economics Beka Liluashvili and economic experts were involved.
From the first day of the pandemic, the Georgian government has been working on a plan to pull the economy out of the crisis,” said Liluashvili.

He noted that one of the groups of international economic experts were created with the support of the USAID who worked on steps Georgia should make to recover from the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Georgian government is working with experts from the University of Cambridge and the University of London as well as Deloitte analysts and local experts to create a post-crisis economic plan and decide what steps they should take in order to improve the Georgian economy after the coronavirus lockdown.
Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava held a presentation today on how the government is planning to help local businesses and especially small and medium-sized businesses reopen and overcome economic difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Georgia will spend 3.5 billion (about $1.10b/€1.02b) on its coronavirus anti-crisis plan, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced earlier today. "For now, the country will spend GEL 3.5 billion on managing the crisis, of which 1.035 billion GEL will be directed at social support of citizens, 2.11 billion GEL will be directed at the economy and entrepreneurs, while 350 million GEL will be spent on the health care of each citizen", Gakharia said.

Georgia has reported nine new cases of coronavirus increasing the total number of cases to 1394. Meanwhile, four patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total recoveries to 1132.
The USAID will increase support for manufacturing, e-commerce, information and communications technology (ICT), and other innovative sectors, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava earlier today after meeting USAID Georgia Mission Director Peter Wiebler.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze’s bodyguard has tested positive for COVID-19, the parliament’s press office reported today. Although Speaker Talakvadze and his family members tested negative, they have gone into self-isolation.
