Air France flight brings first passengers as air connections reopen

An Air France flight brought over 170 passengers from Paris to Tbilisi on Saturday as air connections between the countries resume after the COVID-19 lockdown.
In the flight, 178 passengers touched down at the Tbilisi International Airport, with TAV Georgia, the managing company of the airport, announcing the resumption of flights.
Air France will have two flights a week for each direction between the capitals. Wednesdays and Saturdays the airline will fly from Paris to Tbilisi, with the return flights scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays.
Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, announced last week the government was working to restore further connections over the next month.
Tbilisi-Paris flights will resume in August, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava earlier today, adding that Georgia is negotiating with airBaltic to resume Tbilisi-Riga flights as well.
Flights between Georgian capital city of Tbilisi and Latvian capital of Riga will resume on August 5, announces the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.
Paris, Riga, Munich are exceptions
Regular international flights will not resume in Georgia until August 31, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, however Paris, Riga and Munich will be exceptions. Air France will carry out two flights a week starting early August from Paris Charles de Gaulle and Tbilisi International Airports and German airline Lufthansa will carry out flights two times a week, linking Tbilisi to Munich.
Restrictions on flights between Tbilisi and three European cities will be removed next week, the government has announced, with connections to Munich, Paris and Riga set to be exempted from the ongoing limits on international travel starting July 13.
Restoring more international flights after the first arrivals since the lockdown earlier this month will depend on the situation with the pandemic in Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava told reporters on Monday.
Regular international flights will not resume in Georgia until October 1, announces the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, however Paris, Riga and Munich will be exceptions. Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava said that restoring more international flights after the first arrivals since the lockdown earlier this month will depend on the situation concerning the pandemic in Georgia.
Georgian National Tourism Administration hopes Georgia will soon be able to increase the frequency of international flights, northwithstanding circumstances of the pandemic, head of the agency Mariam Kvrivishvili said earlier today.
