The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announces that 1- and 2-tetri coins will lose their status as legal tender and be taken out of circulation in January 2022.

It will be possible to use these coins until the end of 2020. From January 1 of 2021, the NBG will allow those who will still hold the 1- and 2-tetri coins to exchange them at commercial banks.

To note, a rule rounding out change given in stores came into play in Georgia on January 1, 2019. Based on the new rule, 1- and 2-tetri coins have been rounded to 0, while 3,4,6 and 7 tetris were rounded to 5. The new rule applied to payment by cash only.

The NBG said that this rule does not imply price changes on products and services.
