More than 5,000 families of ex-servicemen, IDPs and socially vulnerable individuals will receive the legal deeds to the flats they already inhabit but that are legally owned by the Ministry of Defence.
The ministry cannot use these flats and cannot reconstruct them. People who live in these flats do not have good living conditions. The new initiative will give them the opportunity to benefit from municipal homeowners’ partnership programmes – to reconstruct roofs, entrances and water supply systems,” says the ministry.
The ministry owns 5,000 non-privatised flats in Kutaisi, Batumi, Poti, Khoni, Senaki, Tbilisi and other municipalities of east Georgia.
The initiative was presented by Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Gharibashvili.
