Over 100 IDP families to receive deeds to inhabited flats owned by state

An additional 115 IDP families will receive the legal deeds to the flats they already inhabit but that are legally owned by the state.
These flats are located in Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Imereti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Mtsketa-Mtianeti, Samtskhe-Javakheti regions and Tbilisi.
About 1,000 IDP families will receive the legal deeds to the flats by the end of this year, says the Internally Displaced Persons, Ecomigrants and Livelihood Agency.
Moreover, the agency says that about 2,000 IDP families will receive new flats in the framework of various programmes this year.
Since 2013, about 21,000 IDP families have been given flats in Georgia.
122 flats will be built on land plots owned by internally displaced persons (IDPs) with the financial support of the German Development Bank (KfW) in Georgia’s eastern region of Shida Kartli and Western Georgia, reports the press office of the Ministry of Health, Social Care and Internally Displaced People.
More than 5,000 families of ex-servicemen, IDPs and socially vulnerable individuals will receive the legal deeds to the flats they already inhabit but that are legally owned by the Ministry of Defence.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has stated that the government will gift flats to up to 700 soldiers in residential complexes built on the Makhata Mountain in central Tbilisi.
Acting Interior Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia told lawmakers today that his body is launching a new project which envisages gifting flats to police staff in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Rustavi.
The Georgian government will hand over new flats to 5,000 internally displaced families within two years, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said today.
