Lelo party, ex-president Margvelashvili may cooperate in upcoming elections as ‘view match’

The Lelo for Georgia political party, created last year by the co-founders of TBC Bank Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze, may cooperate with Georgia’s fourth President Giorgi Margvelashvili in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the autumn.
Both Lelo and Margvelashvili have confirmed negotiations are underway as ‘our views on many issues match.’
We will inform the public about the results of the negotiations. We are in talks with other political figures as well. I am sure we will together defeat the ruling Georgian Dream party in the first round of elections,” Japaridze said.
Margvelashvili confirms that his views and those of Lelo match and the party unites ‘many of his co-fighters.’
The Lelo for Georgia party was created in December 2019, shortly after Khazaradze and Japaridze were charged with laundering 17 million USD in a transaction dating back more than 10 years.
Political unity Lelo for Georgia has demanded the State Inspector’s office investigate the recent murder of 24-year-old Murad Tsurtsumia who died in an incident involving Interior Ministry employee Zurab Popkhadze.
The fourth President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili has announced his return to politics via his official Twitter page, stating that the current Georgian Dream ruling party ‘has crossed the red line.’He did not give more details about his political plans.Margvelashvili was elected to the position in 2013. He refused to run again for the presidency in 2018 and stated that he “wanted to set a precedent of the Georgian president ending their term peacefully and democratically.”
Businessman Mamuka Khazaradze’s new civic movement Lelo, former Parliament Speaker Davit Usupashvili’s Movement for Building and the New Rights party have announced the launch of political cooperation.
