Over 51 per cent of civil employees in the Ministry of Defence are women, while 2.7 per cent of people who are serving in military missions are women, said Minister of Defence Irakli Gharibashvili earlier today.
In total, 8 per cent of people working in the defence system are women.
Gharibashvili noted that 25 women have been involved in the Basic Combat Training (BCT) recently which confirms one more time that the interest from women is large.
He noted that women are not obliged to serve in the army, although he welcomes their wish to serve if they so decide.
Going to the army for women is voluntary...There should not be any [gender] difference in issues including love and commitment to the country,” said Gharibashvili.
He noted that women should be more active in this direction and express more desire to join the army.
