Georgia reports 11 new coronavirus cases, 24 recoveries

Georgia confirmed 11 new cases of the coronavirus and 24 recoveries over the last 24 hours. 

As of May 30, the country has a total of 757 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 600 recoveries and 12 deaths.

The number of infected individuals stands at 145, however, two Austrian citizens who tested positive for the coronavirus back in March returned to their country.

The Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia told journalists today that the sources of infection for all the new patients belong to already identified ‘clusters’.

In his parliamentary address yesterday, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia again spoke on how the Georgian government has assisted the citizens during the time of the coronavirus.

  • 72,175 individuals (who lost jobs due to the crisis) have already received 200 GEL monthly aid (which they will receive for six months).
  • 52, 151 self-employed people have received one-time 300 GEL aid.
  • 22,644 families with many children and poor families have received financial aid, as well as more than 40,000 people with disabilities.
  • 18,000 farmers have bought diesel at low prices, 27,000 farmers have used various support programmes and 38,000 people have managed to postpone paying customs fees for their vehicles.

Meanwhile, a total of 12,477 citizens have been brought from different coronavirus-hit areas in the world since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak.
