There are 27 Georgian citizens over the age of 100 in the country’s Black Sea region of Adjara. One of them is Asie Makharadze, who turned 100 today. Makharadze lives in the village of Purtio in Shuakhevi Municipality.
Makharadze is the mother of eight, and has 20 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
She is a veteran of WWII, as well as a public figure in the Zamleti community.
She earlier worked as a midwife and attended 600 childbirths.
The Chairman of the Government of Adjara Tornike Rijvadze and the Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Zaal Mikeladze congratulated Makharadze on her 100th birthday and gifted her 1,000 GEL as part of a one-time assistance program for citizens over 100 years.
Currently, there are 27 individuals over 100 years old living in Adjara, and 34 citizens will reach the age of 100 in 2020.
