Coronavirus cases climb to 25 in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia

Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region has reported four new cases of coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 25.
Local media outlets report that the new patients are students of a Russian military academy who were already placed under quarantine in Abkhazia before testing positive.
The number of coronavirus cases stands at 34 in Georgia’s another Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region.

Georgia has reported just one new case of coronavirus earlier today.
As of May 19, 234 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia.
A new hospital has opened in the village of Rukhi located about a kilometre from Enguri Bridge, which connects Russia-occupied Abkhazia with the rest of Georgia. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said the new hospital will offer qualitative care to people living on both sides of the occupation line.
The Russian-controlled Tskhinvali has closed the so-called “border” with the rest of Georgia and over 60 other countries to prevent the coronavirus from spreading.
The number of coronavirus cases stands at 34 in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region, with two of the patients themselves doctors who work in different hospitals of Znauri, a district in Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
The de-facto government of the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region has confirmed five new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 30 in the region.
The de-facto government of the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region has confirmed seven new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total to 35 in the region. RFE/RL reports that all the newly infected individuals are students of a Russian military academy who returned from Moscow to Abkhazia on June 2.
The Embassy of Russia in the occupied Georgian region of Abkhazia has urged its citizens to use face masks and gloves, and to maintain social distance in public spaces due to the worsening COVID-19 epidemic situation in the region.
