Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has not directly answered the questions of the media pertaining to his possible resignation, saying earlier today “Let’s wait for the final word, don’t make me spoil it for you.”
Several of the Georgian media outlets reported last week that Gakharia would resign soon.
Leader of the European Georgia opposition party Gigi Ugulava stated that such statements are made by a man ‘who is about to leave,’ adding that Gakharia should not have been appointed to the post as he “dispersed the peaceful rally on Rustaveli Avenue” on June 20, 2019.
Gakharia was appointed to the post in September 2019, shortly after the June protests in Tbilisi sparked by the presence of Russian MPs in the Georgian parliament.
Gakharia, who previously served as interior minister, was praised by the ruling Georgian Dream party ‘for avoiding threats to the country.’
