Occupation forces open Kartsmani crossing point

Perevi-Kartsmani crossing point between Georgia’s Russian-controlled Tskhinvali region and the rest of Georgia has been opened.
The de facto authorities of Tskhinvali closed the crossing point on December 30 ‘due to increased security threats in New Year days.’
The de facto authorities said then that the crossing point would be closed until 6 am of January 3, 2020.
The other crossing points between the region and the rest of Georgia have been closed since early September of 2019, creating a severe humanitarian situation on the ground.
The Russian-controlled de facto Tskhinvali region of Georgia has announced a ‘temporarily closure’ of the only, Kartsmani crossing point with the rest of Georgia ‘due to increased security threats in New Year days.’
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili calls on the international community “to react with all possible means” to the detention of Georgian doctor and traumatologist Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was sentenced to two-month pretrial detention by Russian-controlled occupation forces yesterday.
Tamar Gigauri, who fell into a well of seven meters deep in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Akhalgori on November 4, is in critical condition, states Democracy Research Institute.
The Democracy Research Institute NGO, chaired by former Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili, has reported the death of 49-year-old Georgian citizen B.K. in Akhalgori [under Russian control] hospital due to closed crossing points with the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region.
Acting US Ambassador to Georgia Elisabeth Rood has addressed the Russian-controlled occupation forces to open crossing points between Tskhinvali region and the rest of Georgia and “allow locals to live without fear.”
De facto President of Georgia’s Russian-controlled Tskhinvali region Anatoly Bibilov has stated that he is against the reopening of crossing points with the rest of Georgia which have been closed since September 2019 and which has created a severe humanitarian situation on the ground.
