Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met with Azerbaijani Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva in Baku to discuss cultural issues.
Zurabishvili told Aliyeva that her initiative to put Georgian tolerance on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list will benefit the whole region, as tolerance “is of a Caucasian character.”
This will be an important message from our region to the world, as this is a value the world lacks for now,” Zurabishvili said.
Zurabishvili stated that she is personally interested in encouraging cultural relations between the states.

Our people should know each other’s culture and history better,” Zurabishvili said.
Zurabishvili stated that direct flights between Baku and Batumi will further boost people-to-people contacts.
Azerbaijani cultural days are scheduled to be held in Batumi soon and I proposed Tbilisi for to also host such an event,” Zurabishvili said.
During her first regional trip to Azerbaijani Zurabishvili also held a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov.

The meeting was focused on the importance of strengthening Georgia-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary relations, the president’s administration reported.
Cooperation with parliamentary structures of international organisations is crucial for Georgia and Azerbaijan,” Zurabishvili and Asadov said.
Zurabishvili thanked Asadov for his country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Before the meetings took place Zurabishvili met with the members of the Georgian diaspora and businesspersons in Baku and spoke about the prospects Georgia have, mentioning free trade deals with China and the EU.
She said that she gives high importance to meeting with the members of the Georgian diaspora abroad during all her foreign trips and stated that Georgian embassies abroad should have close relations with Georgian emigrants for the people to feel the state support.
