Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has announced a hold on the intense wave of new construction in Tbilisi at a briefing today.

He has declared that the intense and ‘chaotic’ pace of construction in Tbilisi will be reduced as raising the number of floors permissible per land plot will be banned.

The new regulation will apply to all future construction permits and plans,” Kaladze remarked.

Mayor Kaladze said that the practice of building up on plots of land originally allocated for smaller buildings has led to a distortion of the cityscape and given rise to a chaotic building trend across the capital city that should be stopped.

Our agenda includes the creation of proper development conditions for Tbilisi [which] will be carried out gradually”, said Kaladze.

He added that “the long-term problem can be eliminated only by means of a radical decision’’ and therefore Tbilisi City Hall is putting an end to the practice.
