Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was released from Tskhinvali prison earlier today, thanked everyone for supporting him since his detention.
Gaprindashvili said in his first televised comment that he did not expect to be released today.
I am full of emotions now… First of all I would like to thank everyone who took my situation close to their heart… and supported me over a month and a half [spent in Tskhinvali prison]”, doctor Gaprindashvili said.
Well-known Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was sentenced to one year and nine months in Tskhinvali prison, was released earlier today.
Georgian and foreign officials have been actively calling on Tskhinvali to "immediately release" Doctor Gaprindashvili, since his detention in early November.
Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani extended his gratitude to everyone for their efforts aimed to release the abducted doctor.
