French national navy warship enters Batumi port

French National Navy warship Commandant Birot has entered the port in Georgia’s western coastal city of Batumi earlier today, Batumi City Hall has reported.

Batumi City Hall says that the vessel entered the city port per a bilateral cooperation agreement in the naval field between Georgia and France and it will participate in a naval drill with Georgian border police personnel and special operative forces.
A joint drill is scheduled to take place on November 25.
The US ship Porter (DDG 78) has arrived in Georgia’s coastal city of Batumi for a port visit earlier today, the US Embassy to Georgia reports.
The Georgian Black Sea town of Batumi is celebrating the Day of Seafarer. Batumi is home to Georgia’s State Maritime Academy, where thousands of young men and women learn practical skills that can be put to use while working on ships that spend months at sea.
The United States Ship Ross entered Georgia’s Black Sea port of Batumi to mark “continued cooperation” between US and Georgia “by promoting regional peace and stability”. This is the ship’s first visit to the country.
NATO ships entered Georgian waters yesterday and stopped at Poti port in the country’s western, coastal region for joint naval drills.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili visited the French National Navy warship Commandant Birot, which entered the port in Georgia’s western coastal city of Batumi yesterday. Zurabishvili said this port call “demonstrates the close partnership between France and Georgia”.
United States Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton has made a port call in the Georgian Black Sea town of Batumi. Hamilton is the first US Coast Guard Cutter to visit the Black Sea since 2008.
