About 30 per cent of Georgian computer users have faced various cyber threats in the first nine months of 2019, while 32 per cent of the users were attacked by dangerous programmes, Kaspersky Lab Georgia reports.
The number of cryptographs [coded messages] and money extorting programmes have increased. 7,500 such dangerous programmes were detected by Kaspersky in the second quarter of 2018 around the world, while the number of such programmes in the second quarter of 2019 reached 16,000. Around 222 computer users have been attacked by cryptographs over the past nine months in Georgia,” Kaspersky Lab Georgia reads.
The lab says that the most common method used by cybercriminals is “fishing”- creating fake pages and emails which are very similar to official pages or emails of famous companies.
Kaspersky Lab Georgia has recommended individuals to refrain from opening suspicious links or pages or downloading programmes from unofficial companies.
The lab recommended companies and organisations train their personnel for cyber security issues.
