Strong wind causes damage in Batumi, western Georgia

Roofing layers torn off a nine-floor building by a strong wind in Batumi injured two people and damaged two cars in the seaside city on Friday.

Doctors said the injured citizens’ condition was stable as they were hospitalised following the incident.

Fire department personnel and police crew were mobilised on Chavchavadze Street, where the incident took place, the Emergency Management Service of Georgia reported.

The Service also said it had received over 20 emergency calls on issues caused by weather conditions.

Property damage was reported in several other sites in Georgia’s west. Roof covers were ripped off several houses and trees were uprooted in locations affected by winds.

The Emergency Management Service has mobilised in various locations to monitor conditions on the ground and offer assistance to those affected. Heavy rain was also forecast for Batumi.
