Only school in Shatili village burns down

A fire broke out in the Shatili village school, completely destroying the building. The school was the only in the historic mountain village.

The fire is extinguished and no one was injured in the incident.

A fire broke out at Shatili school a few hours ago. The facility was mainly made of wood, and [it was impossible to] extinguish the fire on time and the building completely burnt down. No one was injured in the incident. The pupils and teachers were able to get out of the building on time. An investigation will reveal the reason for the fire”, reads a public statement.

Later, the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport announced that the ministry will find an alternative building in Shatili and will provide pupils with computers and books.

Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia promised that a new school will be built in Shatili funded by the National Council for Mountain Development.

“Construction will begin as soon as possible in accordance with climatic onditions. Shatili will have a new school along modern standards”, said Giorgi Gakharia.
