Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani has held meetings in the Spanish parliament today and thanked the country’s lawmakers for their support in international parliamentary formats.
Meetings were held with Maria Soraya Rodriguez Ramos, a chair of the Joint Commission for the European Union of Congress of Deputies of Spain and MPs from the foreign affairs and defence committees.
The Spanish lawmakers highly praise Georgia’s successful steps and reforms for European integration and stated that Georgia is a distinguished country in the region in this regard,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry says.

The ministry reported that Spanish lawmakers expressed their firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Zalkaliani invited the lawmakers to attend the Batumi conference this year, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative.

While in Spain Zalkaliani met with members of the Georgian diaspora, famous Georgian athlete Nika Sherazadishvili among them.
Zalkaliani handed a certificate of the honorable ambassador of tourism to Sherazadishvili and said that Sherazadishvili has played an important role in raising awareness about Georgia in Spain”, the Foreign Ministry stated.
Sherazadishvili became the first judoka in the history of Spain to win the world championship last year.
Zalkaliani launched his meetings in Spain on 26 January.
