Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell Fontelles has told his Georgian counterpart David Zalkaliani in Madrid today that the interest of Spanish companies in Georgia is increasing.
He says that Georgia is particularly attractive because of its geopolitical location and transit capacity.
We have excellent relations with Georgia. May be there are minor problems regarding the visa policy, but in terms of economic cooperation, situation is really promising. Georgia is an interesting county for our companies,” Fontelles said.

He said that Spain and Georgia are cooperating successfully in the cultural and education fields, as well as against crime and illegal migration.
Fontelles reiterated his country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the country’s aspiration to become the member of the EU and NATO.
Zalkaliani spoke about successful Georgian reforms and the country’s progress on its path to EU integration.
He also mentioned the current situation in the two occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

Zalkaliani stated that the development of the tourism field is in the focus of the Georgian government.
We are eager to share the Spanish experience in this regard,” Zalkaliani said.
Zalkaliani stated that Spanish officials have expressed “no concerns” regarding the EU-Georgia visa free deal.
Moreover, we have been praised for taking steps to prevent illegal migration to the EU member states,” Zalkaliani said.
Zalkaliani started meetings in Spain on 26 January.
He met with Spanish legislators and members of the Georgian diaspora yesterday.
