Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze has presented the government’s plans to deal with air pollution in the country.

Protection of the environment’s air is an important part of our green policy. We take care of our environment, share responsibilities and have fresh air as a result. When we are talking about the environment, preventing air pollution is vitally important and certain steps need to be made in this regard,” PM Bakhtadze said.

He named air pollution as one of the major challenges for urban areas in Georgia and worldwide.

The situation in the capital city is most problematic due to the number of cars and population. When we speak about our new policy we mean several regulations based on European and international practice as well as different important reforms,” he added.

PM Bakhtadze said that several enterprises in particular are also contributing to air pollution which is why the government has introduced new regulations for developers which are expected to be discussed by the parliament.

On the other hand, the government has developed a 40-point plan together with Tbilisi City Hall”, PM Bakhtadze said.

He also drew attention to the fact that new regulations will also cover industrial areas and require them to be in compliance with European standards.
