Georgia is working on a new bill to ensure access to public information about atmospheric air quality.

The bill ‘On the protection of atmospheric air”, that will be presented at today’s meeting of the parliament, states that the latest information on the concentration of harmful substances in the atmospheric air should be regularly available to the public.

Complete and up-to-date information should be available for the population about the concentrations of atmospheric air quality and alarm limits”, read the bill.

Meanwhile, this month the government of Italy allocated €2 million to help Georgia purchase five new stations to monitor atmospheric air quality and to study the risks of natural threats in the capital city of Tbilisi.

Hydrological and geological studies in the Mtkvari River and its tributary basins within the territory of Tbilisi will also be carried out with the funds.

Air quality standards improvement is one of the commitments taken on by Georgia in the EU-Georgia Association Agreement signed in June 2014.
