Air pollution in Georgia not higher than in Eastern European countries

Georgia’s National Agency of Environment has reported based on the latest data of the World Health Organisation (WHO) that the air pollution in the country equals the average air pollution levels of Eastern European countries.

WHO says that the air pollution level in most regions of the countries in within the norm and the level is higher in capital Tbilisi,” the agency stated.
A range of European Union countries have higher air pollution than Georgia (Poland ,Italy, Bulgaria), as well as  most countries of Asia and Africa. Air pollution in many EU cities is higher than in Tbilisi,” the agency added.

The agency stated that until 2015 only one air pollution measuring station functioned in the country.

Now there are seven static and one mobile air quality measuring stations,” the agency reported.

The National Agency of Environment claimed that the country is taking steps to provide better systems to monitor air pollution in Georgia.
