One detained for stealing up to $3,000 through internet fraud

Police have detained an individual in Georgia’s Black seaside region of Adjara for stealing money through Internet fraud that affected dozens of people.

The Georgian Interior Ministry reported today that an individual identified as G.I. received 8,000 GEL [Up to $2,919/€2,588] through fraud since December 2018.

The individual created fake Facebook accounts of around 20 people and asked friends to transfer money to his account on Crystalbet – an online gambling website in Georgia.

The crime is punishable by four to seven years in prison.
